A founder’s letter: why I’m building Medjay

I’ve spent most of my working life in and around travel — in hotels, in tour operations, in events. I’ve stood at the front desk on a fully-booked night, chased a supplier for a confirmation an hour before a transfer, and rebuilt an itinerary at midnight because a flight moved. I love this industry. It’s made of people who make other people’s best memories.

But for years, something quietly bothered me: the tools never matched the craft.

Great operators, held back by their software

Everywhere I looked, I saw talented agents and hoteliers doing world-class work on top of a patchwork of spreadsheets, half-fitting software, WhatsApp threads and memory. The service was five-star. The systems underneath were held together with tape.

It wasn’t for lack of trying. It’s that the software built for our industry was often clumsy and expensive, and the software that was slick had clearly never met a real tour operator. So people made do — and “making do” quietly costs you margin, hours, and the occasional heart-stopping mistake.

I didn’t want to build software for travel. I wanted to build the software I always wished I’d had.

So I built the thing I wanted

It started as a single build for one luxury-travel operator — a proper CRM and a website that actually worked together, that understood quotes and itineraries and margins and suppliers. Real bookings flowed through it. Real money. And it kept proving itself, week after week.

At some point the obvious hit me: this shouldn’t be a one-off. Every good operator I know deserves this. So we de-branded it, hardened it, and turned it into something anyone in the trade can pick up and make their own — Traveler for agents and operators, Host for properties, and Site for the website that ties it together.
